CA Antivirus: How to use CA Antivirus to protect your PC with Maximum Results

Finding your way through an anti-virus program can be confusing. Especially for us, normal people who just wants to use our computers to communicate with friends, listen to music, share photos, etc. without having to learn the geek stuff related to protecting our computer. So here's a simple step-by-step tutorial on how to protect your computer with CA Antivirus.
Step 1 (Installing the Program). First, before your install CA Antivirus, uninstall any other anti-virus software already in your computer. Restart your computer after uninstalling. If you downloaded the installation file, the installation starts automatically or simply double-click the installation file for CA Antivirus located on your desktop. Note: If you are using Windows Vista, the User Account Control window may appear, prompting you to respond. Administrative privileges are required to complete this action. Respond to the User Account Control prompt to continue. Select Install from the Installation Menu. Enter your license key in the field provided. Note: If you purchased a CD, the license key is on the back of your CD sleeve. If you downloaded the software, the license key was emailed to you. You must enter the key exactly as it appears in the email. Select the folder in which you want to install CA Antivirus and click Next. Click Complete to finish the installation. Restart your computer.

Step 2 (Conducting the Initial Scan) After you have restarted your computer, left click on your CA Antivirus system tray icon on the bottom right of your screen. Choose "Update". It is essential to update your signature file BEFORE conducting the scan. CA Antivirus will update itself. When the update is completed, click "OK". Then double-click on the system tray icon again. The CA Antivirus Security Center should pop up. Choose "Scan My Computer for Viruses". Let the computer sit for a while while the scanning is being conducted. After the scan, click "OK". It is a good idea to restart your computer again after the scan, but not required.

Step 3 (Protecting Your Computer from Future Viruses) To make sure that your computer is safe from any future viruses and attacks. You need to make sure that the signature file is constantly updated and that your computer is virus-free through scanning. Double click the CA Antivirus system tray icon and open the Security Center. Make sure that auto-update is on. Also, double check that the Real-time Scanning and Automatic Email Scanning is on. Note that by doing so, your computer would have maximum protection from virus. However, because of the nature of the real-time protections, your computer might take a little longer in loading webpages and email programs. So some people choose to turn some of these real-time options off. It is up to you but from my personal experience, I like to turn Automatic Email Scanning off for smoother net surfing in general. I find that the basic setup of the CA Antivirus is enough to protect my computer. But it is completely up to you. Just know that these options are available.

I hope that you find this article useful for learning about the CA Antivirus 2008 software. It is important to have one active antivirus program installed in your computer at all times. To read more reviews on CA Antivirus, check out www.CAantivirusReview.com
