Application Security - IT Risk Management

Application Security risk assessment and risk management are vital tasks for IT managers. Corporations face increased levels of Application Security risk from hackers and cyber crooks seeking intellectual property and customer information. A comprehensive application security risk assessment is a modern day corporate necessity.

Application security risk management provides the optimal protection within the constraints of budget, law, ethics, and safety. Performing an overall Application Security risk assessment enables organizations to make wise decisions.

Web Servers - Application Security

Web Servers are One of the most critical sources of Application Security risk to organizations. Performing an application security assessment and implementing security risk management is critical. Here are core points that pose a major security risk to Application Security:

Default configuration - Application Security

Web server default configurations that may not be secure leave unnecessary samples, templates, administrative tools, etc. open to attacks. Poor application security risk management leaves security breaches for hackers to take complete control over the Web server.

Databases - Application Security

Web sites and applications must be interactive to be useful and there lies the risk... Web applications without sufficient application security allow hackers to attack their databases. Invalid input scripts leads to many of the worst database attacks. Comprehensive risk assessment may reveal steps to ensure application security.

Encryption - Application Security

Encryption reduces application security risks and losses when Web servers are breached. Even though a company's Intranet server has greater vulnerability to attacks, encryption creates a lower relative risk.

Radware is the global leader in integrated application security solutions delivering full availability, maximum performance and complete security of all business critical networked applications. Radware's application security dramatically reduces operating and scaling costs. For more information, read Radware's application security brochure.

Everything You Need to Know About Web Design

A representation of content, related to an individual, business or any other topic; using design and graphic principles on the internet in the form of web applications and web sites is known as web design. Web design usually involves and uses technologies and standards such as HTML, CSS, XML, SSL, PHP, ASP, etc.

Web design differs completely from web development, which is more technical and deals with issues concerning the web site dynamics, validations and constraints. The principle of web site design further involves conception and collection of web pages, that in turn, collectively are known as a single entity, a web site. Web pages are usually the basic content and design holders for the entire web site.

Web design involves great many characteristics of design. The web site design usually depends completely on the type of content. The web site design should be consistent with the content offered by the site and should be able to please the target population looking for such content. Web site design, should be such that it renders the site almost maintain ace free. It should also be user-friendly, with the most basic navigational concepts instilled and an interface that keeps bringing its users back for more. Thus web design plays a very heavy hand in retaining the web traffic. Aesthetics should be eye pleasing and should be consistent throughout the web site. The whole idea of web design, caters around the presentation of the content posted on the web page, this should be kept in mind during the design phases, so that the content is stark and completely readable without any hindrances. Web design definitely affects the online business and visitor retention a lot, no body wants to visit a web sit again which is poorly design and the navigating is a pain.

iPhone Hacks & Software - Getting Closer to iPhone Unlocking

With the iPhone news of the Apple launch, the number of iPhone hacks has increased exponentially and a great deal of energy has been put into working through the iPhone software to find where the passwords and the “glue” is for a number of apps. The “Holy Grail” at the moment is iPhone unlocking.

iPhone unlocking is in fact most requested hack, and unlocking means that the iPhone can be used on any network and not just AT&T’s. There have been a couple of claims to have managed this iPhone hack ultimate but so far it’s all just rumors though it seems that a couple are indeed getting close and have managed to gain ownership of the file system. Sieving through the iPhone software and especially the gif images that are embedded seems to be the number preoccupation of any self respecting iPhone hack merchant around the globe.

One writer at GigaOM claims that they have gotten all the iPhone functions working except the telephone, voicemail and text features. To be honest I don’t see the point in all of this, getting an iPhone hack to unlock the beast is not going to be of much use unless you use the iPhone overseas and on top of that you’ll have no 3G support.

Where I do see a value in getting the iPhone software opened up, is that once we have the iPhone unlocked then being able to use the device as an ultimately portable minicomputer working over a wifi network then we have something that’s going to be useful.

On the iPhone news grapevine, it’s not just iPhone hacks that are streaming in thick and fast, there are also a series of full-blown web apps which I have to say is pretty impressive – well done guys! Probably the best one at the moment is the iPhone hack “iChat for iPhone” which provides you with IM capability on AIM. More than that, the iPhone software source is available for this hack and you can host it on your own machine. If you are really serious about keeping up-to-date with the latest in iPhone unlocking and iPhone hacks then check out the iPhone Dev Wiki that seems to me to be the closest to getting an iPhone unlocking hack.

iPhone software that you can download onto your new iPhone can be found at iPhone Applications on the web. Here you’ll find all iPhone software and applications such as iWeather and more games than you can shake a stick at. Unfortunately, until we get iPhone hack that will open up the iPhone to third party applications we are going to have to make do with Apple iPhone software that we’re allowed to play with at the moment.

How long before we have an iPhone hack that will help us unlock the iPhone completely is like asking how long is a piece of string, but with the energy that is being devoted to it, I guess it could be any day now.

iPhonesTalk brings you all the latest on iPhone hacks, iPhone unlocking, software, news and more.

Wireless Broadband Internet (Do I Need A Router? Which Protocols, Is It Safe?)

Wireless broadband internet uses a radio link to make the internet connection which means that the computer is more portable than if it were plugged in to a cable or modem. The internet connection works for home or business use and uses the radio link to convey the internet service between the location of the customer and the service provider's facility. Wireless broadband internet service can be mobile or it can be fixed.

In more rural areas, wireless broadband internet can be used. In these sparsely populated areas, DSL or cable modem services would be extremely costly to provide. The wireless speeds in these particular areas are usually comparable to DSL and cable modem. Usually, though, an external antenna is required.

Wireless hot spots are becoming increasingly popular. You can find these fixed wireless broadband internet connections at city parks, book stores, coffee shops, airports and other public locations. A hot spot usually uses a relatively short range technology. This technology will provide speeds up to 54 Mbps. Wi-Fi, or wireless fidelity technology may also be used with DSL or cable modem services. This is done quite often to connect devices to the internet in a business or home. A broadband connection is often used.

Wireless broadband services are also becoming mobile as they are now being offered by mobile telephone service providers. These types of services are usually best suited for customers who are very mobile. The service requires that use of a special PC card with a built in antenna. This plugs into the laptop computer of the user. This method does usually offer lower speeds.

Depending on the type of wireless internet that you get, you may need additional equipment. Some services require the use of an Ethernet bridge while others require the use of a router. When you shop for your wireless internet services you need to ask what additional equipment will be required for your wireless to operate correctly.

What You Should Know About Cleaning Your Computer

What a lot of computer owners don’t realize is how important it is to keep your computer clean. Cleaning your computer is almost all the time considered not to be a priority of any computer owner. Why? I have to believe that it’s lack of knowledge. In other words not a full understanding what the fuse is all about.

A computer is a very delicate piece of equipment. The computer works hard to entertain you, and serve your bidding. While your computer is doing all this it is running or is turned on. When the computer is on, all the components inside of the computer are working causing the computer to get hot. Depending on what you are doing on your computer at any given time, will in a lot of cases depend on how hot the computer will get.

Cooling is a very important part of your computer system. If your computer gets to hot things start to happen, bad things. Things that you don’t really don’t want going on inside your computer. In other words computer components will brake or burnt out. This will render them useless. Meaning they will have to be replaced.

The biggest cooling threat to all computers is dust. When a computer is on the components inside the computer are electrically charged. It’s the electrically charged components that attract the dust in side of your computer. What happens when you leave the dust unattended in side your computer? It will build up on the computer components, and especially the computer processor heat sink. When the dust builds up on the computer components, they can no longer breathe or circulate the much needed cooler air that allows computer components to cool down. If your computer components can not cool down they will simply break down.

You should try and get the most you can out of your computer. You can increase your chances of achieving that goal with a simple cleaning. I recommend a good cleaning at least once a month. This would also depend on your environment. The reason why I recommend cleaning the inside of the computer once a month is that it makes the cleaning job easier by decreasing the dust build up inside the computer.

Web Page Design

Web page design involves the design of pages that are published on the World Wide Web. Web page design includes not only the aesthetics aspects but also includes navigational and user interface aspects of design. Web pages must be designed keeping in mind the goals of the organization for whom the site is being designed. The process of Web page design begins by gathering all the information, understanding the objectives to be achieved and determining the target audience. The type of browsers visitors use, the kind of Internet connections used to visit your site and the computers used are other important design factors. A site designed for broadband users can be graphics intensive compared to a site designed for dial-up users who typically use a slower Internet connection.

Once the design specifications have been decided, it is best to start planning the navigation structure and content of the Web pages. The process of Web design often involves creation of a mockup, which provides an idea of the layout of the Web page. Once the mockup is finalized the graphics are created and the coding of the Web page can be done using a mark up language such as hypertext markup language, or HTML.

HTML allows creation of Web pages that can be viewed using a Web browser. HTML allows the precise placement of text and images and enables navigation through the use of hyperlinks. Several WYSIWYG (What you see if what you get) HMTL editors are available to help create Web pages. Using these HTML editors, a designer can create Web pages without having to learn actual html coding. Microsoft FrontPage and Macromedia DreamWeaver are two of the most popular and powerful HTML editors.

Designers use image editing software applications to create the graphics for a Web site. Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Fireworks are two of the most popular image editing applications.

How to Come up With a Good Domain Name

Your website is basically identified by a domain name. Therefore, it is of equal importance to allot a certain amount of attention and time to think crucially about what domain name is to be used for your business. You may opt at replicating a product or a service, or the site design that you want may have slight similarities with some other sites, but domain names must be particularly unique with the rest of the other domain names. Below are some of the useful tips that you can use in making a domain name:

- A domain name is considered a good domain name when it is easily memorized and remembered. A uniquely made domain name that stands out differently from the rest is an easily remembered and recognized domain name. As such, people will keep on re-visiting the site because they have a good recall of the site name.

- A domain name is considered a good domain name when it is a shorter domain name. Shorter domain names keep people from incorrectly typing the name, as it only requires fewer characters. Longer domain names are prone to being incorrectly typed on the address bar compared to shorter ones.

- A domain name is considered a good domain name when it is appropriate to the name of the business. The nature of the company activity must be well spoken by the domain name attached with it. Having a matching domain name with the business activity shows an air of relevance and consistency.

Metric Cabinet Hardware

Are you tired of how your old cabinets look? Instead of hiring an interior designer, why not take a trip to the hardware store and look for the things you need to make the changes? You can start by buying some cans of paint, paintbrushes and rollers, pans, a few bottles of thinner, sandpaper, hinges and some cabinet hardware. Of course, you'll need proper tools like screwdrivers and maybe a drill if you plan to make some new holes in the wall.

But before you take a trip to the hardware store, make a few observations and plan ahead. Make sure that you know what you want to do and what kind of hardware you need. You can choose between a knob, which is something you use with one screw to mount as a handle of your cabinet, or a pull, for which you need two screws. You might want to take into consideration the design and the finishing of the hardware as well. You can choose from steel, brass, wooden, nickel, and many other kinds of finishing.

Make sure you consider all the hardware you will need. You don't want to go all the way back to the hardware store just because you missed one screw or one knob, would you? Another aspect that is very important is taking the exact measurements of the hardware that you need. Surely you want the hardware you bought to fit in the existing hole of the cabinet. Though you may be prepared to drill a new hole just to accommodate your hardware, knowing the diameter and the depth of the existing hole and using it as a reference for the hardware you intend to purchase will save you a lot of time and hardship in the end.

Window Tinting Information

Window tinting reduces the transmittance of visible light through a car's windows. This can be problematic when its dark since it reduces the ability of cars around a car with tinted windows to spot traffic problems. Window tinting can also be a problem for the safety of police officers since the officer may not be able to see into the car.

There are laws in many states regulating window tinting. These laws prevent people from using a window tinting film that is too dark.

The United States Department of Transportation requires a minimum of 70% visible light transmission for window tinting on the windshield and windows to the left and right of the driver. There are no specified window tinting regulations for the other windows on a car. Many states have laws that go further to regulate window tinting within their state. Private vehicles can have window tinting as dark as 20% visible light transmission depending on the state.

Installing window tinting is usually done professionally with special films. Incorrect installations may cause bubbles or peels.

Removing window tinting can be even more difficult. The adhesive that adheres the film to the window is very difficult to remove. It is best to leave this job to a professional as the film must first be heated, then peeled off, and then the glue must be dissolved with ammonia so it can be wiped off.

Window Tinting looks great on a car, but it must be done properly or you can face many problems.

Macro Software - Windows Automation Software With Task Scheduler and Trigger

It's hard to explain why people are so fascinated by finding way to simplify their jobs. These are some repetitive work processes, like inputting same data, checking customers contact information, submitting thousands of sites, and more. You may say because they are too lazy and want to find out the simplest way to save their work time. You are right. It is just one case. Most people just want to find out the way to simplify their jobs and release their hands to do other more important jobs. This is why you need macro software, which is automation software with task scheduler and trigger. You may use macro software to complete all kind of tasks automatically by attaching task scheduler and trigger.

First, you need know what macro is. Macro is a set of keystrokes, mouse actions and instructions that are recorded, saved, edited. The recorded keystrokes, mouse action and instructions can be played back (executed) in further. Macros can simplify day-to-day operations, which otherwise become tedious.

So how does macro software simplify your jobs? Here, let's list macro software named Macro Expert, and see how it works. The macro software is a collection of several separate applications, all work together to act like one cohesive unit. These applications are macro manager, macro service, macro script editor and macro player.

In the macro software, macro service is responsible for administering the macro list, watching for conditions that would cause a triggered or scheduled macro to play. It also monitors the hotkey of macro. Macro manager is a tool for administering the macro list, such as creating a new macro, importing an existing macro, removing a macro from the list, setting the global options, changing the property of a macro and etc. Macro script editor is a tool for editing macro actions. Although a macro can be created by recording, but the recording only captures the mouse and the keyboard activities. You should use macro script editor to get useful action, such as waiting for a window focused, displaying a message box of notice, copying or moving files. Macro player is player for playing the macro. It will be invoked by the macro service or macro manager.

Then, you can use these applications to record your keyboard keystroke, mouse movements and mouse clicks, or edit macro script for certain tasks, and then to replay them later. For example, if you want to surf a site, you just record every step of operation, and save the actions, and then replay the macro when you want. Or in other complicated operation process, you may use macro script editor to edit steps in detail. With this way, you can, of course, simplify your jobs.

Absolutely, you may automate your tasks with task scheduler and trigger. You can schedule a macro to run at a specific time that is most convenient for you. Also you can schedule a macro to launch periodically (daily, weekly or monthly). Scheduling a macro is a good idea to perform a task automatically without your supervision.

By this macro software service, every managed macro can be triggered. So you can launch every triggered macro when some events occur, such as disk free space is low, a removable driver is removed and etc. The macro software trigger does not have to be based on a moment in time. It may be based on one or more system events. Whenever, a system event occurred and a macro has been triggered with it, the macro will be launched automatically.

Quite clearly, by using this automation software, you can get rid of these tedious repetitive tasks you have to do every day. Get to know more about the automation software in detail, visit the site at http://www.macro-expert.com

10 Critical Steps To e-business Safety

10 Critical Steps To e-business Safety

Copyright [C] 2002 Shahnaz Rauf, snzeport.com

Web site and e-business security is a very sensitive
issue. Some of the top brass in cyber-marketing have
hired full time network wizards to work it out for
them. Giants such as Microsoft have set up special
network security courses just to resolve such issues.

If you had a brick and mortar business, you would be
maintaining a regular schedule and time sheets to
monitor your employees. Also you would be ensuring
tight security by installing alarms, closed circuit
monitoring (video cameras), electronic cards etc.
Online too you need to monitor your 24 hour sales
person...

- Is he really doing the job you want him to do?
- Is your eshop secure from the darker elements?
- Who and what are your customers doing?
- Where are they coming from?
- Does your business have any loop holes?
- Are your transactions safe etc?

Yes you need to set up all your bells, whistles,
snooping devices and other security measures.

Here are 10 basic ‘must do’ steps for small home
based webmasters like you and me:

1. Trade mark all your slogans, logo, ultimate
selling proposition etc. by putting a TM sign [For
example: The House of Viral e-BooksTM ]. This also
gives you a touch of `class` and creates a brand
image for you.

2. Put a Copyright notice and date (Copyright [C]
2002 Your name) on all your creations, articles,
sales letter, web pages etc.

3. Put a disclaimer - `use it at your own risk`
clause for all your work- articles/ebook/website/at
the end of ezine etc. This discourages those
elements who are not capable of accepting
responsibility for their actions and need to pin
it else where.

4. On all outgoing auto-responder messages – put
the ‘this is an autoresponse’ clause to avoid
any spam complaints. For I have experienced that
in the rush to grab something free, some people
will keep sending several emails to auto-
responders instead of waiting patiently for
response to arrive. Then of course, the basic
autoresponder sends them an equal number of
responses.

5. Make your ezine/ list double opt in - state
this right at the top, also let them know that
confirmation e-mail and computer IP address is
on record. If you want to be even more secure,
tell them that any false spam complaints will be
prosecuted and damages will be claimed due to
downtime- this will discourage any ‘happy-go-
lucky’ individuals whose sole purpose in life is
to mess it up for hard working, down to earth,
honest people. [Beware: The double opt–in
procedure may reduce your subscriber count – but
will let you cultivate a very high quality list
of people who really want to hear from you.]

6. Monitor your website statistics – usually your
webhost should enable raw statistics, but any good
sitemeter should be able to provide this information:

- Who is visiting your website?
- Where are they coming from?
- How much time they are spending?
- Which pages they are clicking to?
- And whole lots more.

Again this is very essential.

7. Track Your links - This is the single most
important factor that can give an instant boost
to your advertising efforts. you need to know:

- Which ads are pulling?
- Where are your buying customers coming from?
- How many files/ebooks/software are being down
loaded from your site?
- Who is clicking on your links – IP address of
your clients?
- How much traffic you are sending to some one?

Any good link tracker should be able to provide
this information.

8. Keep tabs on your web-host`s performance – You
need to know:

- When your website went offline?
- When it came back up?
- How many hours it was un-accessible?
- How many seconds did your page take to load up?

Here you may use the services of
http://www.internetseer.com

9. Broken link monitoring - broken links can

- Create a bad image/impression about you in your
customers minds.

5 Ways to Give Your Web Site a Big-Company Look and Feel

We all DO judge a book by its cover, and the same
saying goes for Web sites. I’ve seen many
entrepreneurs offer great information on their Web
pages, but compromise their image dramatically with a
few amateur mistakes that can be VERY unforgiving.

If you want to attract high quality clients and
customers, and convey that you’re a legitimate,
credible, and sought-after business, these five points
are a great launching pad to give your site that “big
company” look and feel.

<< 1. Start with a high-quality LOGO. >>

The one your kid created for you doesn’t count! I’m
talking about paying a designer to do one for you, and
it doesn’t have to cost in the thousands. If you don’t
have much of a budget, consider the following options:

For my E-zine Queen site, I used an online logo
service called “1800MyLogo”
(http://www.1800mylogo.com). At the time they charged
only $199 to design a professional logo based on my
business, style, and personal preferences. The whole
process only took about two weeks and was conducted
entirely over the Web. (To see the final result, take
a quick peek at http://www.ezine-queen.com)

I’ve also heard good things about
http://www.gotlogos.com, where you can get a quick Web
site logo for only $25!

<< 2. Get your own business DOMAIN NAME. >>

It’s just a fact that folks will feel safer shopping
at a site with its own domain name.

For example, if you were shopping online for a
circular saw, would you be more likely to purchase
from a hardware site called “www.bobshardware.com” or
the one whose URL is
“www.geocities.com/3339/bobshardware?” (This is a
fictional example, by the way.)

Having your own domain name implies you’re a “real”
company, and not Uncle Bob working in his kitchen at
night (even though you my very well be ; )).

There are several “bargain basement” places to buy
domain names, but the two most popular and credible
are still:
http://www.register.com
http://www.networksolutions.com

<< 3. Get (and USE) a business E-MAIL ADDRESS. >>

Nothing screams “amateur” like sending out
professional e-mail from a handle like
“fuzzybear4u@hotmail.com.” Once you get a domain name
for your Web site, have your hosting company set up a
professional e-mail *alias* for you.

Let’s go back to Bob, for example. Suppose Bob’s
e-mail has always been “BobSmith0002@earthlink.net.”
Now that he has his own domain name, he can instead
use
“bob@bobshardware.com”. He still KEEPS his Earthlink
address, because that’s where he’ll actually receive
his mail. But he should only GIVE OUT the new one on
his Web site, business cards, etc.

If you use Outlook Express or a similar e-mail
program, you can set it up so that your e-mails ONLY
show your e-mail alias and NOT your personal e-mail
address. (To do this in Outlook Express, go under the
“Tools” menu. Then choose “Accounts.” Then select the
account you use, and click “Properties.” Enter your
e-mail alias in both the “e-mail address” and “reply
address” fields.)

<< 4. Get a professional-looking Web site DESIGN. >>

This can mean either hiring a designer to do a custom
site for you, OR designing it yourself. Unless you’re
both trained extensively in HTML and have a background
in design, it’s well worth the money to hire someone.

Find prospective designers who work with small
businesses, ask to see samples of their work, and be
upfront about your budget. If their rates are higher
than you can afford, ask them if they have any
pre-designed Web site templates they can just insert
your information in, cutting down tremendously on
design time and cost.

If you do want to put together your own site, check
out the “corporate” section of
http://www.freewebtemplates.com for several neat
designs you can use at no charge. (TIP: Avoid the ones
with colored backgrounds; they’ll make it more
complicated for you, and your text will be harder to
read.)

Whatever design you choose, make it CONSISTENT on
every page of your site, by using the same design
elements such as borders, fonts, and colors.

<< 5. Tell us WHO YOU ARE and HOW TO REACH YOU. >>

Most of us (and rightfully so) are leery of purchasing

online from a company we’ve never heard of before. To
alleviate our fears, put contact information on every
page if you can, with a physical mailing address,
phone number, and e-mail address.

If you’re uncomfortable posting your home address,
lease a box at a mailing and shipping center and use
that address. Avoid using “P.O. box” in your address
if possible, which can appear suspicious. Real
companies have real addresses!

Also, get a *toll-free* number if you can — it really
says “big company.” I got mine from my long distance
provider, 1Com (http://www.1cominc.com), because they
charge no setup fee or monthly fees — I only pay for
the incoming calls at my usual great long distance
rates.

JavaScript Image Cropping with jsCropperUI and Rails

We just add a cool new feature to doodlekit™ that lets users upload their own header image for their layout. The obvious problem with this is resizing and cropping images is a pain, even if you happen to have photoshop. There's a better way. I knew I could do the cropping with RMagick, but how do I know what to crop? Enter DEfusion's JavaScript Image Cropper UI. This was just perfect, as it uses prototype and scriptaculous, which I'm already using through Rails. Not only that but it supports ratio constraints, which is very important for my purposes.

As for the implementation, it was fairly simple. I just looked at the example they had for fixed ratios, only changed a few things.

My javascript import looks like this...

<%= javascript_include_tag("prototype", "builder", "dragdrop", "cropper", "scriptaculous") %>

I changed the ratioDim line to use the size of the target space as the default dimensions.

ratioDim: { x: <%= @layout.header_width %>, y: <%= @layout.header_height %> },

This way, they can resize the cropping area, but only with respect to the target ratio. I changed the text fields to hidden fields and just slapped a form tag around them that posts to a Rails action that looks like this.

def crop_and_close @settings = @site.settings @layout = @site.layout if params[:x1] img = Magick::Image::read(@settings.header_image_file).first img.crop!(::Magick::CenterGravity, params[:x1].to_i, params[:y1].to_i, params[:width].to_i, params[:height].to_i, true) img.resize!(@layout.header_width, @layout.header_height) img.write @settings.header_image_file end end

I'm already using RMagick, and file_column to upload the image btw. This simply uses RMagick to crop the file, and then resizes it to the target size for the layout.

This was so super easy, and so far it works in FF, IE, and Opera! If you're looking to do something like this, I highly recommend this Javascript cropping UI.

10 Easy Steps to Speed Up Your Computer - Without Upgrading

10 Easy Steps to Speed Up Your Computer - Without Upgrading

By Jim Shutes
Lapeer Tech Group

It seems that the longer you own your computer, the slower it gets! A lot of people will keep their computer until it gets so slow that they feel they need a newer, faster model. Some feel like the reason it is getting slower is because it is getting older, when that is just not the case. Your computer should run just as fast as the day you brought it home – if you follow these 10 Easy Steps to Speed Up Your Computer.

1. Empty the Temp directory regularly. After a short while, the temp directory fills up with hundreds of temp files that always get scanned over when Windows starts up and when programs launch. This slows everything down immensely.

Rule of thumb for Temp Files: If you don’t have any programs open (and nothing minimized in the bar below), then you shouldn’t have ANY temp files in your temp directory. If you do, delete them.

To delete Temp files, make sure NO programs are open, and…

a. In Windows 95, 98 or Me, go to C:WindowsTemp and delete everything inside the Temp folder.

b. In Windows 2000 or XP, it is a little trickier. First, make sure that you can see hidden folders. Double-click My Computer. Click on the Tools pull-down menu, and then on Folder Options. Click on the View tab. Scroll down and click on Show Hidden Files and Folders. Click Ok. Now you can go to the C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorLocal SettingsTemp folder. Delete everything here.

2. Empty the Temporary Internet Files regularly. To empty Temporary Internet Files, go to your Control Panel and double-click the Internet Options icon. Choose to Delete Cookies, and to Delete Files. This will clear all of your Temporary Internet Files.

3. Check your hard disks for problems.

a. For Windows 95, 98, or Me, double-click My Computer. Right-click the C-drive and click on Properties. Click on the Tools tab and choose to check the computer for problems. If you choose to do a Thorough Scan, this will do the hardware check for physical disk damage or sector damage. Choose to fix any errors it finds.

b. For Windows 2000 and XP, double-click My Computer. Right-click the C-drive and click Properties. Click on the Tools tab and choose to check the computer for problems. Click on Check Now. You will then have two check boxes. The top option is for the file check, and the second option is for the hardware (physical disk) check. Check either one, or both. At least check the top one. Hit ok, and reboot. This may take some time, but let it run.

4. An even more thorough disk check, would be to use a 3rd party utility. One of my favorites is TuneUp Utilities 2004. It does cost $39.99, but they do offer a FREE download trial of 15 days. This program does a really good job of fixing software and physical hard drive problems. It also tunes up your system for increased speed, and streamlines your operating system for peak performance. Download it HERE... http://www.lapeertechgroup.com/downloads.asp

5. Or, you can do a few of the performance tweaks yourself, if you have Windows XP. By default, EVERYTHING is turned on in Windows XP. It isn’t very streamlined for performance, but rather for appearance. You can turn off a few of the unnecessary features, and Windows will still work just fine, and maybe a little faster.

To do this, right-click on My Computer and click on Properties. Click on the Advanced tab. Under the Performance section, click on the Settings button. On the Visual Effects tab, you will see a list of check boxes. By default, these are all on. You really don’t need any of them for Windows to run. Go through the check boxes one by one, and determine which ones you can and can’t live without.

6. Turn off Active Desktop. Active Desktop turns your desktop into a web page, and allows you to have things like a real-time calendar, and up-to-the-minute weather or stocks. These are nice, but really slow down your computer. And even if you don’t use Active Desktop for anything, just having it active can cause a performance decrease. Turn it off.

a. In Windows 95, 98 and Me, right-click on the desktop and in the pop-up menu, choose Active Desktop. Inside that option, uncheck Active Desktop. If there is no check next to it, then it isn’t on. Don’t choose it. Instead, just click the desktop again to get out of the menu.

b. In Windows 2000, right-click on the desktop and in the pop-up menu, choose Active Desktop. Inside that option, uncheck Show Web Content. Again, if there is no check next to it, then it is not on. Do not check it.

c. In Windows XP, right-click on the desktop and in the pop-up menu, choose Properties. On the Desktop tab, choose Customize Desktop. Now, on the Web tab, make sure that there are no websites chosen here. If there aren’t any, then Active Desktop is not on. Cancel and go back to the desktop.

7. Install and run a good AntiVirus program to keep out viruses that can take over your system. One of my favorites is AVG. It is not only a really good AntiVirus program, but it is also FREE! If you don’t have any AntiVirus software on your computer, get AVG AntiVirus NOW by downloading HERE... http://www.lapeertechgroup.com/downloads.asp

8. Get rid of Spyware. A lot of computer users have Spyware and don’t even know they have it, much less how to get rid of it. If your computer has been taking you to websites that you don’t want to go to, or if you get pop-ups when you aren’t even on the Internet, or if your computer has been running extremely slowly lately, for no reason, you probably have Spyware.

On all of the computers that I setup, I install two different AntiSpyware programs: AdAware SE and SpyBot. These two programs are highly recommended by TechTV (G4) and other computer authorities (including my own research on Spyware) and work very well together. They compliment each other and catch Spyware that the other misses, but together, do a very good job.

Get SpyBot HERE... http://www.lapeertechgroup.com/downloads.asp. Download all updates and run the Immunize option a couple of times.

AdAware SE does a good job when you keep up on the updates and manually scan your system with AdAware. Get it HERE... http://www.lapeertechgroup.com/downloads.asp

In some cases, when the Spyware has become too entwined into your system, even a computer repair technician can’t get rid of the Spyware. At this point, it is better to just backup only what you need and have the operating system reinstalled. Believe me, when your computer gets to this point, you don’t want to just put a “band-aid” on it. Just start from scratch with a clean system. It’s the best way to go.

9. Streamline MSCONFIG. One thing that really causes a HUGE performance decrease is to have unnecessary programs running in the background. Some of these programs can be seen in your System Tray (located next to the clock). These are tiny programs that are robbing you of memory and processing power. Some of them you need, while most you don’t. Some of the programs you DON’T need are printer icons, CD burning icons, shortcuts to programs (such as video settings), AOL, any Instant Messaging Programs, etc. Just because these programs aren’t always running, doesn’t mean that you still can’t print, burn CDs or Instant Message. They can all be run from a shortcut.

You can use a utility, called MSCONFIG, to turn OFF unnecessary Start Up items.

a. In Windows 98, Me, and XP, click on StartRun and type msconfig. Click on the Startup tab. This is a list of everything that is running in the background, some of which show up in the System Tray. Now, be careful, some of these you do need. Some items to keep are Ctfmon.exe (XP), Scan Registry (Win98, Me), Task Monitor (Win98, Me), System Tray (Win98, Me), LoadPowerProfile (Win98, Me), Rundll.32, any AntiVirus programs (such as McAfee, Norton, or AVG). Others, you can uncheck, such as NeroCheck, ypager, qttask, AOL, and any other Instant Messaging programs, or printing programs. Remember, if something doesn’t work, because you turned it off, it can always be turned back on. You just have to reboot every time you make a change here. But, as you uncheck the unnecessary programs that run in the background, you will see that Windows loads much faster, that there are less icons in the System Tray, and that your system is much more “snappy” and quick to respond.

b. In Windows 2000, MSCONFIG wasn’t supplied. You actually have to download and run an MSCONFIG utility. Download the MSCONFIG utility HERE... http://www.perfectdrivers.com/howto/msconfig.html.

After you reboot, you will have a window that says that the configuration utility was edited. Just check not to show that in the future, a check box at the bottom. This just means that there was a change made to the MSCONFIG.

10. Defragment your hard drives. NOTE: to efficiently defragment a hard drive, it likes to have 25% free space. It can still do the defragmentation with only 15% free space, but it takes quite a bit longer. If you can, delete any unnecessary files before deframenting your drives.

a. To defragment your hard drives (in any Windows operating system), double-click on My Computer. Right-click on the c-drive and click on Properties. Click on the Tools tab and choose the bottom button, to Defragment Now…

Good luck. I hope this article has helped you. If you live in the Lapeer County, MI area, and would like a Professional professionally TuneUp your computer(s) in your home or business, please contact Lapeer Tech Group at (810) 793-1093, or visit our website at www.LapeerTechGroup.com

Your Home Business: Turning Pennies into Dollars

Your Home Business: Turning Pennies into Dollars
Copyright ฉ 2003, Stone Evans, The Home Biz Guy
http://www.pluginprofitsite.com/main-3877

Henry Ford taught us that to simplify the manufacture of
automobiles, that the best way to do so was to install the
assembly line. That one change revolutionized the auto
manufacturing industry permitting the industry to build cars at
a cost whereas the average person could afford to buy one.

The lesson we should take from this is that having the ability
to improve the process of getting the job quicker and cheaper,
without compromising the quality of the job being done, will
help catapult the person who simplified the process to the top
of his/her field.

Pennies saved in your home business can turn into dollars at the
end of the day, and dollars can quickly multiply into hundreds
or thousands of dollars over time.

Doubt me if you will, but let me ask you a question. Do you
think a saving of two fifths of a penny could make any real
difference in the profit margin of a home business? Of course
the right answer is "it depends on how many transactions are
done in a year, utilizing the savings of the two fifths of one
penny."

You only have to think back a couple of decades to really
appreciate this question. Do you remember the nut that lived and
died in a Las Vegas hotel room? You know the one who was a
billionaire, and was so worried about germs that he died of
starvation? If you guessed Howard Hughes (1905-76), pat yourself
on the back.

Now Howard did not make all of his money on his two fifths of
one penny. He did however make a ton of money from his two
fifths of one penny. It seems Howard owned a can manufacturing
company. And one day, Howard's team figured out how they could
make one minor change in the design of their food can to reduce
the amount of tin necessary to make a single can.

As the story goes --- if my memory serves me correctly --- the
reduction in tin usage equaled a saving of two fifths of one
penny per can. Howard --- being the really smart businessman
that he was --- decided that he would not be so greedy as to
keep all of the savings for himself. What Mr. Hughes did do was
to keep half of the savings for himself, and give the other half
to his customers. The incredible thing about Mr. Hughes decision
is that by saving his customers an extra one fifths of one cent
per can, he managed to take more market share away from his
competition --- netting his company an additional and
substantial portion of the total market share in the canning
industry.

Let us return our thoughts to your home business. Have you ever
gotten the feeling of excitement --- when you read something or
thought of something --- that you could not wait to implement
this new idea? This could be one of those moments...

In every home business, there are certain processes that we do
over and again. Sometimes it may be possible to trim the time or
expense of a process which in turn will add pennies or dollars
to your bottom line. If it is a process that you do hundreds or
thousands of times per month, then your savings will multiply
into hundreds or thousands of dollars in monthly savings.

Imagine what running a home business was like BEFORE the
computer...

Before the personal computer, we had to hand type all letters
and invoices. Now, we can setup a letter or invoice that we send
out quite often, and we can save it in our word processor so
that when we need to use it again, we can print it quickly and
efficiently. There is no longer a need to type the document
again from scratch.

The computer has simplified our business communications and has
provided us the opportunity to reduce our costs of doing
business.

Think about all of the other processes that the computer has
enabled us to do for far less expense than what we could in the
past.

In this case, the computer is a tool that permits us to save
time and money.

So, my challenge to you is to begin examining the processes in
your own home business and look for ways in which you can save
yourself time and money. It is far better for you to contemplate
on this matter than it is for me to do so for you. Simply put,
you know your business better than anyone on the planet does.
Therefore, you are in a better position than anyone to find
those extra dollars that will decrease your costs and increase
your profits.

The extra pennies and dollars you could extract from your
business could spell the difference between success and failure
for your home business enterprise.

Can the Spam

Many of you were very concerned at the enormous increase
in junk email, estimated to have grown about 42% during 2001,
and the seemingly non-stop invasion of X-rated email.

Analysts predict that the volume of email on the Internet,
most of it junk, will grow another 50 percent in 2002.

That is a lot of email!

With estimates that the number of Internet users is nearing
the 1 billion mark, the amount of email floating around the
Internet is only going to get worse.

Many of you have asked if there is any sure-fire cure for all this
junk email that we receive right now and any more that may
appear this year.

The short answer - Yes.

Make good use of your delete button! :-)

The long answer is - No.

No, there is no 100 percent cure for the spam that plagues us
all, X-rated or not. But there are several ways to try and alleviate
this problem.

Most email programs, including Microsoft's Outlook Express, have
custom filtering features that are built into the program but which
are, more often than not, very much unused.

The big problem in using ANY email filter system is that
they may cause blocking of legitimate email.

Basically, you can set up filters to remove email that comes
from a specific email address or set it up to block email
which contains certain key words in either the Subject section
or in the Body of the message.

Netscape Communicator 4.0 or later also have filtering ability
but Netscape Navigator does not have filtering ability. And
Eudora 3.0 and above can also filter your email.

Filtering will not eliminate all spam email but it can make your
life on the Internet just a bit easier.

Just keep in mind that filters are a constant, ongoing process.
Spammers are always changing strategy to keep ahead of the
Filters or other Spam Blocking software.

Here are a few of the most popular email management tools:

SpamKiller by Novasoft
http://www.spamkiller.com/
Free 30 day trial. $29.95 w/free upgrades.

Spam Buster by Contact Plus Corporation
http://www.contactplus.com/products/spam/spam.htm
Free download for evaluation. $19.95 for registered version.

Brightmail
http://www.brightmail.com/
Considered one of the best, if not the top filtering program.

Elron Software
http://www.elronsw.com/
Internet filtering software. Free trial downloads.

Mailshell
http://www.mailshell.com/
Free 30-day trial. $29.95 per year. Use unlimited email addresses.

Once you decide how you want to approach this problem, then
it is just a matter of keeping tabs on your email and making
adjustments to block future changes that spammers might make.

Keeping on top of this will allow you to can the majority of
the SPAM that is now finding it's way into your in-box.

Tips for an Effective Website

A successful website is something that everyone venturing into the new arena of Internet marketing and communications wants to have. Your website will often be a potential client’s first impression of you and your business. That being said, it is vitally important that your website represent you in a favorable manner. Your website is a component of your overall marketing strategy and should be reflective of your business and current marketing presentation. Just as your brochures and other print materials represent a level of quality and professionalism, your website should also represent that same level of quality and professionalism. As a point of comparison, you most likely wouldn’t have just anyone design your company’s marketing materials or for that matter, prepare your tax statements. Similarly, it is important that the person creating your website know how to effectively communicate both your message and style, and be able to create an effective experience for those visiting your site.

What does it really take to have your website be successful, and what are some of the most important steps you can take to make that happen?

1. If you intend to have a unique domain name for your website, you must first check to see if it is available. You can check to see if a domain name is currently registered at http://www.internic.net.

2. Set a budget for your website. It is important to know how much you can spend on your project. In considering costs, remember that a website is a complex matrix of text and images and a professional execution is very important. As a generalization, the larger your investment, the greater your return. In order to spread your investment over time, you can also grow and expand your website gradually. Don’t forget to include costs for promotion and advertising.

3. Determine the purpose for your website and the intended results. Does this purpose support the mission and vision for your company? The number of options and variables that are possible in the design of a website are virtually endless. Without a clear idea of the purpose for your website, you may end up putting time, energy, and money into a project which doesn’t meet your needs. If you know in advance the results you intend to achieve, you will be better equipped to create a website which will achieve those results.

4. Consider the design and layout of your website. Is it easy to use? Does it take too long to download? Is it easy for Internet visitors to find information? Does it meet the needs and expectations of your visitors? Several smaller pages eliminating the need for scrolling are often more effective than one long page. If an Internet visitor doesn’t have a positive experience of your website, she/he probably won’t return, or won’t tell someone else about it. An effective website often creates a reason for the visitor to return. This reason can take the form of unique information that changes on a regular basis, interesting and useful resources, or a way for visitors to communicate with you or with each other. Use your website to build a relationship with your Internet audience.

5. Promote, promote, promote.

No one will find your site if you don’t let them know about it. Your site must be posted to search engines such as Lycos, Yahoo, and Excite. There are approximately 20 to 30 main search engines and several hundred that are smaller or specialized. You can find an extensive list of website submission sites, services, and resources at http://dir.yahoo.com/Computers_and_Internet/Internet/World_Wide_Web/Site_Announcement_and_Promotion/.

Include your website address on all your marketing materials; business cards, and advertising; you can even paint your address on the side of a company vehicle. The idea is to have as many people see your site address, and thus your website. You may also consider hiring a publicist to help you get the word out.

6. If at all possible, begin your website now. The companies which have been on the Internet the longest are those which achieve results sooner. If you are in an industry which isn’t widely represented on the Internet yet, so much the better - you’ll be able to start off with a larger market share. It's estimated that there are about 200 million people using the internet with 75% of them in North America. Start your Internet presence today!

World of Warcraft Characters

World of Warcraft Characters by Michael Malega
Many aspects have been covered in this article so that you can benefit from an extended research.
The World of Warcraft is a much populated world, in fact many people would say that it is an overpopulated world. If you're wondering what on earth World of Warcraft is, to put it simply it is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG), and the World of Warcraft characters to be found inside its confines are as colorful as you will find anywhere on Earth.
The World of Warcraft characters can come in many unlike varieties and each character takes on a life of it's own after creation. This life is infused into the characters by each another(a) player and is the ground why MMORPG's like World of Warcraft are so popular with people.
Wouldn't you be like to be anyone you precious to be, even if it was only for a few short hours a day? This is why many people are drawn to the game, the World of Warcraft characters gives everyone more scope than they would otherwise be able to get elsewhere.
This becomes enhanced when there is Player vs. Player situations. Because the World of Warcraft characters can take on the life and the mannerisms of the player, no two World of Warcraft characters are alike. This makes for interesting times when players meet.
To take your World of Warcraft characters (because with one accounting you can create up to a maximum of Fifty characters which can be spread across the unlike servers), you will need to go through a series of steps.
The first step is choosing your faction. You need to decide first of all whether you're going to be part of the honorable Alliance, or whether you want to be a part of the mighty Horde....please continue on our site that is all about this topic and much more for your interests...

The best spyware removers

Finding the best spyware removers to detect and remove spyware and adware from your computer is much easier if you consider a few things before you make your purchase. Here are a few things to keep in mind when looking for a spyware protection program. The best spyware removers should offer you complete protection against spyware, adware, keyloggers, Remote Access Trojans (RATs), and browser hijackers. These are the main spyware infections that expose your confidential information and diminish your PC's performance. An important consideration for any spyware protection program is automatic updates for your software. There are new spyware programs invented on a regular basis just like viruses and automatic updates cover you against the latest spyware threats. Another important consideration to look for should be technical support from the manufacturer. A spyware protection program doesn't do you any good if you have a technical issue that you can't solve. Often, just a minor piece of technical advice will solve most software problems and it's important that your software run right. You also may need someone to answer questions that come up.Customer service is another feature you may consider looking for. It shows the manufacturer is a trusted source who cares about their reputation and will probably be around awhile.Spyware is quickly becoming a major threat to Internet security. It is reported that 9 out of 10 computers are currently infected with spyware, adware or both. Most people don't even realize it's there because spyware and adware is programmed to run silently. Microsoft estimates that spyware is responsible for 50% of all PC crashes. If you don't remove spyware from your computer it will eventually not work at all or your computer files will become infected by spyware programs. Your personal information, passwords and credit card numbers could end up stolen from you without you even knowing it. Once you remove spyware and adware programs from your computer you'll find it will run faster and your personal information will be much safer. Your security and peace of mind is worth spending a little time to find the best spyware removers possible.Copyright ฉ 2005 Spyware Information.com All Rights Reserved

Your Home Business

Your Home Business: Turning Pennies into DollarsCopyright 2003, Stone Evans, The Home Biz Guyhttp://www.pluginprofitsite.com/main-3877Henry Ford taught us that to simplify the manufacture ofautomobiles, that the best way to do so was to install theassembly line. That one change revolutionized the automanufacturing industry permitting the industry to build cars ata cost whereas the average person could afford to buy one.The lesson we should take from this is that having the abilityto improve the process of getting the job quicker and cheaper, without compromising the quality of the job being done, willhelp catapult the person who simplified the process to the topof his/her field.Pennies saved in your home business can turn into dollars at theend of the day, and dollars can quickly multiply into hundredsor thousands of dollars over time.Doubt me if you will, but let me ask you a question. Do youthink a saving of two fifths of a penny could make any realdifference in the profit margin of a home business? Of coursethe right answer is "it depends on how many transactions aredone in a year, utilizing the savings of the two fifths of onepenny."You only have to think back a couple of decades to reallyappreciate this question. Do you remember the nut that lived anddied in a Las Vegas hotel room? You know the one who was abillionaire, and was so worried about germs that he died ofstarvation? If you guessed Howard Hughes (1905-76), pat yourselfon the back. Now Howard did not make all of his money on his two fifths ofone penny. He did however make a ton of money from his twofifths of one penny. It seems Howard owned a can manufacturingcompany. And one day, Howard's team figured out how they couldmake one minor change in the design of their food can to reducethe amount of tin necessary to make a single can.As the story goes --- if my memory serves me correctly --- thereduction in tin usage equaled a saving of two fifths of onepenny per can. Howard --- being the really smart businessmanthat he was --- decided that he would not be so greedy as tokeep all of the savings for himself. What Mr. Hughes did do wasto keep half of the savings for himself, and give the other halfto his customers. The incredible thing about Mr. Hughes decisionis that by saving his customers an extra one fifths of one centper can, he managed to take more market share away from hiscompetition --- netting his company an additional andsubstantial portion of the total market share in the canningindustry.Let us return our thoughts to your home business. Have you evergotten the feeling of excitement --- when you read something orthought of something --- that you could not wait to implementthis new idea? This could be one of those moments...In every home business, there are certain processes that we doover and again. Sometimes it may be possible to trim the time orexpense of a process which in turn will add pennies or dollarsto your bottom line. If it is a process that you do hundreds orthousands of times per month, then your savings will multiplyinto hundreds or thousands of dollars in monthly savings.Imagine what running a home business was like BEFORE thecomputer...Before the personal computer, we had to hand type all lettersand invoices. Now, we can setup a letter or invoice that we sendout quite often, and we can save it in our word processor sothat when we need to use it again, we can print it quickly andefficiently. There is no longer a need to type the documentagain from scratch. The computer has simplified our business communications and hasprovided us the opportunity to reduce our costs of doingbusiness.Think about all of the other processes that the computer hasenabled us to do for far less expense than what we could in thepast. In this case, the computer is a tool that permits us to savetime and money. So, my challenge to you is to begin examining the processes inyour own home business and look for ways in which you can saveyourself time and money. It is far better for you to contemplateon this matter than it is for me to do so for you. Simply put,you know your business better than anyone on the planet does. Therefore, you are in a better position than anyone to findthose extra dollars that will decrease your costs and increaseyour profits. The extra pennies and dollars you could extract from yourbusiness could spell the difference between success and failurefor your home business enterprise.Resource Box:-----------------------------------------------------------------Stone Evans, The Home Biz Guy can help you launch your very own money making website today that's 100% ready to take orders and pull in massive profits for you right now ... guaranteed! 8 Key Actions for Protecting Your Privacy Online

8 Key Actions for Protecting Your Privacy Online Doug Partridge - All Rights ReservedAre you at risk of losing your privacy? Answer the following three simple questions:Do you shop or bank online? Do you use an "always on" high-speed Internet connection? Do you connect to the Internet from your home computer? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions and you have a Windows computer – then you are at risk. Your computer needs to have the appropriate protections and you must take extra steps to secure your computer and protect your privacy. Why is this so critical? A recent study on Internet security sponsored by America Online and the National Security Alliance found that while most people thought their computers were secure upwards of 80% contained monitoring software known as "Spyware." Spyware allows companies to download information from your computer without you even knowing it. Spyware represents a direct threat to online privacy and security. But you can put a stop to it.Here are 8 key actions for protecting online privacy:1. Use a Personal Firewall. In addition to using an Anti-Virus program, a personal firewall is mandatory as it will block unwanted connection attempts. Sygate's Personal Firewall is a top-quality firewall and it's free for personal use. http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm2. Use a Spyware removal program. You can't rely on your Anti-Virus program to find and remove all instances of Spyware. Ad-Aware from Lavasoft is free for personal use. Recommendation: run a full scan at least once a week. http://www.lavasoft.de/3. Change to a More Secure Internet Browser. Due to the numerous security exploits targeted specifically at Internet Explorer, consider using another web browser. An excellent free alternative is "Firefox" from Mozilla. Not only is it more secure, you get a built-in pop-up blocker and Google search tool. http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/4. Never provide personal or financial information to a non-secure website. A "secure" website is indicated by "HTTPS" in the address bar, and a small padlock icon in the lower right-hand corner of your browser window. http://www.verisign.com/advisor/check.html is a free place to check your browser's security capabilities.5. Never provide confidential or financial information in response to an email request. Legitimate companies will never ask for personal or financial information over an insecure medium like email. Attempts to trick people into revealing personal and financial information through impersonated email messages is known as "Phishing." Some of these messages look very official and may come what appears to be a bona fide bank or company. Beware! When unsure if an email message is genuine it's best to telephone the company in question. Phishing email messages may be reported to http://www.antiphishing.org/.6. Read the fine print before typing in private personal information. Always read the privacy policy of a website to understand how they will use your information. Will they share or sell it? Be suspicious if no privacy policy is visible.7. Never download or accept any file or program from an un-trusted source. Adware and Spyware are frequently bundled with "free" programs. You may download one program and find that your computer becomes infected with a Spyware programs. 8. Be wary and virus check all email attachments. Never open an unexpected email attachment, even from known friends or business senders. Their computers may be infected. Self-spreading worms can infect a computer and then send an infected email-attachment to everyone in the owner's address book. Malicious Internet threats are clearly a formidable enemy; however, the good news is that tools and information are readily available so that you can enjoy the Internet without putting your computer and confidential information at risk.
